SERGEANT-AT-ARMS (EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE MANAGER) DUTIES:- Oversee and coordinate with Senior Guardian, Hale Guardian, Trailer Guardian, and Boat Guardians.
- Help Boat Guardians with boats' transport and winter storage in October.
- Help Boat Guardians with boats' transport and readiness for use in April.
- Serve on and report to the Board of Directors.
- Keep HROCC credit card and make equipment/supplies purchases.
- Do research and make recommendations to the Board about safety and equipment requirements.
SENIOR GUARDIAN DUTIES:- Help, mentor, and train new Boat, Hale and Trailer Guardians.
- Advise the Equipment Maintenance Manager making sure all necessary repairs and equipment needs come to his/her attention.
- Insure the Equipment Maintenance Manager schedules and completes repairs and equipment maintenance in a timely manner.
- In the event one of the other guardians are gone or unavailable to attend to their duties, the senior guardian will assure that the duties of the guardian who is unavailable are covered.
BOAT GUARDIAN (MALOLOS) DUTIES:- The Boat Guardian is responsible for his/her one boat.
- Report to the Equipment Maintenance Manager anything and everything you think pertinent relative to your boat.
- Continually keep an eye on the condition and health of your boat during the paddling season to be sure it is in good working order.
- Inspect boat and covers at least twice a week for damage and scratches, missing parts, etc.
- Be sure boat is always stored and covered properly, ,and secured from wind damage.
- Check for water in floatation tanks and amas. Drain as necessary.
- Be sure your boat has 3 hand bailers, securely tied, and at least one sponge.
- In the event we get bilge pumps check that the electric pumps are working properly and fully charged.
- Be sure boat has a 50-foot tow line, stowed for easy access.
- Regularly check for damage to the skirts when they have been used.
- Assist the Equipment Maintenance Manager to arrange for professional repair when needed, and assist in arranging transportation to/from repair shop.
- Assist the Equipment Maintenance Manager in arranging for covered winter storage and transportation thereto.
- Make occasional visits to the storage area to check for rainwater, wind damage, snow, etc.
- Communicate with the guardians of the other Malolos to insure uniformity of care.
BOAT GUARDIAN (FIBERGLASS SPEC) DUTIES:
- The Boat Guardian is responsible for his/her one boat.
- Report to the Sergeant-at-Arms. (Equipment Maintenance Manager) anything and everything you think pertinent relative to your boat.
- Continually keep an eye on the condition and health of your boat during the paddling season to be sure it is in good working order.
- Inspect boat and covers at least twice a week for damage and scratches, missing parts, etc.
- Be sure boat is always stored and covered properly, and secured from wind damage.
- Check for water in flotation tanks and amas. Drain as necessary. Amas on the spec boats tend to leak a bit and need to be monitored and drained periodically.
- Be sure boat has 2 hand bailers and one 5-gallon paint bucket, all securely tied, and at least one sponge.
- Check that all lashings are tight, secured, and covered with rubbers. This is especially important with the 12 person boat.
- Be sure boat has a 50-foot tow line, stowed in paint bucket for easy access.
- Advise and assist Equipment Maintenance Manager in making repairs if needed before winter storage.
- Advise and assist Equipment Maintenance Manager in making repairs and re-painting as needed during winter storage.
- Advise and assist Equipment Maintenance Manager arranging covered winter storage, transportation, and occasional visits to check for rainwater, wind damage, snow, etc.
HALE GUARDIAN DUTIES:
- Keep the hale neat, clean, and organized.
- Keep the paddle shed and the paddles sorted and organized by size.
- Insure that the life jackets, towels and cleaning equipment are clean, dry, and available.
- Periodically remove the garbage.
- Advise and assist Equipment Maintenance Manager in arranging for the delivery of the fence in April, and the removal in October.
- Advise and assist Equipment Maintenance Manager in labeling, itemizing and storing all equipment in containers for the winter.
- Coordinate everything relative to the Lost and Found. Periodically notify HROCC members about items left in Lost and Found as well as notifying the membership about Lost items which our members are trying to find.
TRAILER GUARDIAN DUTIES:
- The Trailer Guardian is responsible for the upkeep of the trailer:
- Make sure the trailer is ready to carry amas, i'akos and paddles for three boats, plus spare tire.
- Insure that the tire pressure in the trailer tires is properly adjusted prior to using the trailer to haul boats.
- 52 PSI is a good number. 65 PSI is the maximum permitted per the tire specifications).
- Insure that the person providing the towing vehicle has a trailer ball meeting the specifications of the trailer hitch. (2 5/16 th inches)
- Arrange for straps and bunks to be brought from storage before loading boats for races and any time the trailers are to be transporting boats.
